Emina Jahović

Early Life

Emina Jahović was born on January 15, 1982, in Novi Pazar, Serbia, into a Muslim Bosniak family. Her mother, Senija, was a pediatrician, and her father, Nusret, was a cardiologist. Emina grew up with two older siblings, one of whom is NBA player Mirsad Türkcan. Tragically, she lost her father at the age of thirteen. Emina's passion for music began early; she attended music school during middle school and took theater lessons in high school. She later earned a bachelor's degree in management from Braća Karić University in Belgrade.

Career

Emina's music career took off in 2002 with her debut album "Tačka," released under Dino Merlin's record label. The album featured the song "U La La," which she performed in the BH Eurosong 2002, finishing fourth. Her sophomore album, "Radije ranije," released in 2005, included the hit "Da l' ona zna" and earned her the title of songwriter of the year at the Pjesma Mediterana festival. Over the years, Emina has released several successful albums, including "Vila" (2009), "Metamorfoza" (2014), and "Dalje" (2018). She is known for her unique blend of pop and R&B, and her music often explores themes of love and grief. Emina has also collaborated with various artists and participated in humanitarian efforts, notably becoming the face of the HRH Crown Princess Katherine Humanitarian Foundation's campaign against breast cancer.

Artistic Development

Emina Jahović's artistry has evolved significantly since her early days as a teen pop singer. She is recognized for her vocal agility and has been described as a mezzo-soprano with a warm lower register. Her music spans various genres, including pop, synthpop, and dance-pop, and she has been affectionately dubbed the "Pop Princess" and "Fairy of the Balkans" by the media. Emina's influence extends beyond music; she is a prominent figure in the Balkans and has a strong following among the diaspora communities worldwide.
