Early Life

Kyuhyun was born in Nowon District, Seoul, where he grew up in a family that valued education and the arts. His father, Cho Young-hwan, worked for the Korean Housing Corporation and later opened educational institutes, while his mother, Kim Hanna, ventured into business with an art academy and a guesthouse. Kyuhyun has an older sister, Ara, who is a violinist. Initially encouraged to pursue a career in law, Kyuhyun's path shifted when he discovered his passion for singing in high school. He gained recognition by placing third in the Chin Chin Singing Competition in 2005, which led him to join SM Entertainment the following year. Despite his father's initial opposition, Kyuhyun enrolled at Kyunghee University, earning both a bachelor's and a master's degree in Post-Modern Music.

Career

Kyuhyun debuted as a member of the boy band Super Junior in May 2006, quickly becoming a prominent figure in K-pop. His first performance was on SBS's I-Concert, where he showcased the group's single "U." He later formed the sub-group Super Junior-K.R.Y with Yesung and Ryeowook, and also joined Super Junior-M, focusing on the Chinese market. Beyond group activities, Kyuhyun has made a name for himself in musical theatre, starring in productions such as "The Three Musketeers" and "Phantom." He launched his solo career with the mini album "At Gwanghwamun" in 2014, becoming the first Super Junior member to do so.

Personal Life

Kyuhyun's life took a dramatic turn in April 2007 when he was involved in a serious car accident that left him hospitalized with severe injuries. His recovery was fraught with challenges, including a life-threatening condition that required a delicate surgical decision. His father, who had once opposed his singing career, played a crucial role in advocating for Kyuhyun's ability to continue singing. Despite these hardships, Kyuhyun has remained active in the entertainment industry, participating in various television shows and continuing to release music.
