Early Life

Rodion Konstantinovich Shchedrin was born on December 16, 1932, in Moscow into a musical family, with his father being a composer and music theory teacher. His early exposure to music was profound, as he was influenced by his grandfather, an Orthodox priest. Shchedrin studied at the Moscow Choral School and later at the Moscow Conservatory, where he honed his skills in composition under Yuri Shaporin and piano with Yakov Flier, graduating in 1955.
