Formation

A Perfect Circle is an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. The duo's collaboration began when Howerdel, a former guitar technician, met Keenan in 1992. After years of friendship and musical exploration, they officially formed the band, rounding out the lineup with bassist and violinist Paz Lenchantin, guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, and drummer Tim Alexander. Their first performance took place at the Viper Club in August 1999, followed by a notable appearance at the Coachella Festival that October.

Breakthrough and Releases

A Perfect Circle quickly gained recognition with the release of their debut album, "Mer de Noms," in 2000, which showcased their unique blend of alternative rock. They followed up with "Thirteenth Step" in 2003 and the cover album "eMOTIVe" in 2004. After the release of "eMOTIVe," the band went on hiatus, with Keenan returning to Tool and Howerdel pursuing solo projects. The band reformed in 2010, performing sporadically until 2013, when they released their greatest hits album, "Three Sixty," and a live album box set.

Reunion and Recent Activity

In 2017, A Perfect Circle reunited to record their fourth studio album, "Eat the Elephant," which was released in 2018. Following a successful tour in support of the album, the band entered another period of inactivity until 2024, when they announced a brief tour and released a new song titled "Kindred." Throughout their career, A Perfect Circle has been noted for their emotional and vulnerable approach to music, distinguishing their sound from Keenan's work with Tool.
