Early Life

Armin Jozef Jacobus Daniël van Buuren was born on December 25, 1976, in Leiden, Netherlands. Growing up in Koudekerk aan den Rijn, he was inspired by the sounds of French electronic music composer Jean-Michel Jarre and Dutch DJ Ben Liebrand. After graduating from Stedelijk Gymnasium Leiden in 1995, he pursued a law degree at Leiden University, which he later put on hold to focus on his burgeoning music career. He began DJing at Club Nexus in 1996, where he played multiple sets a week, often lasting over six hours.

Music Career

Van Buuren's music career took off in the late 1990s with the release of his first successful track, "Blue Fear," in 1997. He founded his own label, Armind, in 1999, and released several popular tracks, including "Communication," which charted in the UK. In 2001, he launched his iconic radio show, A State of Trance (ASOT), which has since attracted nearly 40 million listeners worldwide. His compilation series and numerous albums, such as "Imagine," "Mirage," and "Intense," have solidified his status as a leading figure in the trance music genre.

Personal Life

On September 18, 2009, van Buuren married Erika van Thiel, and they welcomed their daughter, Fenna, in July 2011. Just hours before his performance at Tomorrowland in 2013, he announced the birth of his son, Remy. In 2018, he explored his family history on the Dutch TV series Verborgen verleden, showcasing his connection to his roots. Van Buuren's dedication to both his family and music continues to inspire fans around the globe.
