Formation

Bauhaus, an English rock band formed in Northampton in 1978, is widely recognized as a pioneer of gothic rock. The original lineup consisted of Daniel Ash on guitar, David J on bass guitar, Kevin Haskins on drums, and Peter Murphy as the lead vocalist. The band's inception was marked by Ash's determination to recruit Murphy, who initially hesitated but eventually joined after co-writing their first song, "In the Flat Field," during their first rehearsal.

Bauhaus quickly gained attention for their unique sound, which blended elements of punk rock, glam rock, and psychedelia, characterized by a dark image and gloomy aesthetic. Their debut album, "In the Flat Field," released in 1980, set the tone for their influential style.
