Billy Gibbons

Early Life

William Frederick Gibbons, known as Billy Gibbons, was born on December 16, 1949, in the Tanglewood neighborhood of Houston, Texas. His father, Frederick Royal Gibbons, was an entertainer and orchestra conductor, which exposed Billy to music from a young age. At just five years old, he attended an Elvis Presley concert, and by seven, he was at a B.B. King recording session. Gibbons received his first electric guitar at age 13, which sparked his passion for music. He formed his first bands while studying at Warner Brothers' art school, eventually creating the psychedelic group the Moving Sidewalks, which gained recognition by opening for the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Musical Career

In 1969, Gibbons founded the iconic rock band ZZ Top, alongside bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard. The trio quickly developed a unique blues-rock sound, releasing their debut album, "ZZ Top's First Album," in 1971. Gibbons' songwriting and guitar skills became central to the band's success, leading to numerous hits and a lasting legacy in rock music. In addition to his work with ZZ Top, Gibbons has pursued a solo career, releasing albums such as "Perfectamundo" in 2015 and "The Big Bad Blues" in 2018, the latter winning the Blues Rock Album of the Year at the 40th Blues Music Awards.

Personal Life

Billy Gibbons married his longtime girlfriend, Gilligan Stillwater, on December 14, 2005. Beyond music, he is a passionate car collector, owning several custom vehicles, including the famous "CadZZilla" and the 1933 Ford Coupe featured in ZZ Top's music videos. Gibbons has also authored a book titled "Billy F Gibbons: Rock + Roll Gearhead," showcasing his love for cars and guitars. Known for his distinctive style, he has recently been seen wearing a braided-cloth cap, a change from his iconic Stetson hat, which he traded during a visit to Vienna.
