Blackmore's Night is a British-American neo-medieval folk rock band formed in 1997, primarily consisting of Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night. The duo's journey began when Night, a fan of Blackmore's previous band Rainbow, approached him for an autograph in 1989. Their relationship blossomed, and by 1991, they were living together, sharing a deep passion for Renaissance music. The project that would become Blackmore's Night started as a playful pun on their names, initially involving session musicians alongside the couple.

Early Success and Evolution

The band's debut album, "Shadow of the Moon," released in 1997, marked a significant musical success, featuring contributions from Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Following this, Blackmore's Night continued to evolve their sound, particularly with the album "Fires at Midnight," which saw a greater incorporation of rock guitar while still embracing their folk roots. Candice Night's role expanded over time, as she not only provided lead vocals but also became proficient on various Renaissance instruments, enriching the band's musical texture.
