Early Life

Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer was born on December 13, 1929, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was raised primarily by his mother, Isabella Mary Abbott, after his parents separated shortly after his birth. Plummer grew up in a family with notable connections; his mother was the granddaughter of Canadian Prime Minister Sir John Abbott. He developed a passion for the arts early on, initially studying to be a concert pianist before discovering his love for acting, inspired by Laurence Olivier's film "Henry V". He honed his craft at the Montreal Repertory Theatre, where he worked alongside fellow actor William Shatner.

Career

Plummer's professional acting career began in 1948 with Ottawa's Stage Society. He quickly made a name for himself on stage, transitioning to Broadway in the early 1950s. His performances spanned seven decades, earning him critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, two Tony Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards, making him the only Canadian to achieve the "Triple Crown of Acting". Personal Life

Plummer was married three times, first to actress Tammy Grimes, with whom he had a daughter, Amanda Plummer. His second marriage was to entertainment journalist Patricia Lewis, and he later married actress Elaine Taylor in 1970. Plummer published his memoir, "In Spite of Myself", in 2008, reflecting on his illustrious career and personal experiences. He was a patron of Canada's Theatre Museum and a member of The Players social club in New York City.
