David Cassidy

Early Life

David Bruce Cassidy was born on April 12, 1950, in New York City, to singer and actor Jack Cassidy and actress Evelyn Ward. Raised primarily by his maternal grandparents in West Orange, New Jersey, Cassidy learned of his parents' divorce only when he was eight years old. He later moved in with his father and stepmother, Shirley Jones, in 1968, as he pursued a career in acting and music.

Career

Cassidy's career took off in the late 1960s when he made his Broadway debut in "The Fig Leaves Are Falling". However, it was his role as Keith Partridge on the 1970s musical sitcom "The Partridge Family" that catapulted him to fame, making him a teen idol. His singing talent led him to record several successful albums, including "Cherish" and "Could It Be Forever". Despite his success, Cassidy struggled with the pressures of fame, famously appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone in 1972 to redefine his public image.

Personal Life

Cassidy's personal life was marked by three marriages and a complex relationship with his daughter, actress Katie Cassidy. He married actress Kay Lenz in 1977, but they divorced in 1983. His second marriage to Meryl Tanz ended in 1988, and he later married songwriter Sue Shifrin in 1991, with whom he had a son, Beau. Cassidy faced financial difficulties, filing for bankruptcy in 2015, and he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2002. He passed away on November 21, 2017, leaving behind a legacy as a beloved entertainer.
