David Walter Foster was born on November 1, 1949, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He grew up in a musical family, discovering his perfect pitch at the tender age of three. With six sisters, Foster was encouraged to explore music, studying both classical and jazz. His passion for music intensified when he heard The Beatles on the radio at age 13, leading him to pursue a career in music. He enrolled in the University of Washington's music program in 1963 and performed with a local band, The Teen Beats, which helped him forge lasting friendships in the industry.
