Биография
Early Life
Forrest Richard "Dickey" Betts was born on December 12, 1943, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and raised in Bradenton. Growing up in a musical family, he was exposed to traditional bluegrass, country music, and Western swing. He began his musical journey at the tender age of five with the ukulele, later transitioning to mandolin, banjo, and guitar. By sixteen, Betts was eager for a faster pace and played in various rock bands across Florida and beyond.
Career
In 1969, Betts co-founded the Allman Brothers Band alongside Duane Allman, which would become a cornerstone of Southern rock. The band achieved critical acclaim and commercial success, particularly with Betts' songwriting contributions, including the hit single "Ramblin' Man." Betts was known for his innovative guitar style, blending blues, rock, and country, and was pivotal in developing the band's unique co-lead guitar approach with Allman. Despite facing challenges, including being forced out of the band in 2000, Betts remained a significant figure in rock music until his passing.
Personal Life
Betts lived primarily in the Sarasota area and had a notable period in Macon, Georgia, during the Allman Brothers' rise. He was married five times, most recently to Donna in 1989, and had four children. His son Duane followed in his musical footsteps, performing alongside him. Betts reconciled with his former bandmate Gregg Allman before Allman's death in 2017. In his later years, Betts faced health challenges, including a stroke in 2018, but continued to receive support from fans worldwide. He passed away on April 18, 2024, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy as one of rock's greatest guitarists.

Forrest Richard "Dickey" Betts was an American rock guitarist and vocalist, best known as a longtime member of the Allman Brothers Band. A co-founder with Duane Allman of the band in 1969, he was central both to the group's rise to critical acclaim in 1971 and its greatest commercial success in the mid-1970s, and was the writer and vocalist on the Allmans' hit single "Ramblin' Man". The Allman Brothers Band broke up and re-formed twice, always with Betts in the lineup, until he was forced out of the group in 2000.
