Early Life

William Frederick Durst, known as Fred Durst, was born on August 20, 1970, in Jacksonville, Florida. He moved to Orlando shortly after birth and later to Cherryville, North Carolina, where he was raised by his mother, Anita, who renamed him after remarrying. Growing up, Durst faced bullying, which influenced his artistic expression. He developed a passion for music at a young age, exploring breakdancing, hip-hop, punk rock, and heavy metal. After serving two years in the Navy, he returned to Jacksonville, where he worked as a landscaper and tattoo artist while dreaming of forming a band that fused rock and hip-hop elements.

Career

In 1994, Durst formed the band Limp Bizkit with bassist Sam Rivers and drummer John Otto, later adding guitarist Wes Borland. The band gained traction in the underground music scene with their unique sound, which combined nu metal, rap rock, and rap metal. Their covers of popular songs attracted attention, and they signed with Flip Records, releasing their debut album, "Three Dollar Bill, Y'all" in 1997. Limp Bizkit's success skyrocketed in the late 1990s, leading to multiple studio albums and a significant following. Durst's role as frontman and lyricist was pivotal in shaping the band's identity and sound.

Personal Life

Durst's personal life has been marked by several relationships and controversies. He married his first wife, Rachel Tergesen, in 1990, but they divorced in 1993 after a domestic incident. He has a daughter from this marriage and a son with actress Jennifer Thayer. Durst's tumultuous relationships continued with two more marriages, including a brief union with Esther Nazarov in 2009 and a marriage to make-up artist Kseniya Beryazina in 2012, which ended in divorce in 2019. Durst has also faced legal issues, including arrests for altercations and reckless driving. In recent years, he expressed interest in obtaining a Russian passport and spending time in Crimea, showcasing his eclectic interests beyond music.
