Early Life

Freddie Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, in Zanzibar, was a British singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the flamboyant frontman of the rock band Queen. His parents, Bomi and Jer Bulsara, were Indian Gujarati Parsis who practiced Zoroastrianism. Mercury spent much of his childhood in India, where he began taking piano lessons at the age of seven. He formed his first band, the Hectics, while attending St. Peter's School in Panchgani, where he developed a passion for rock and roll.
