Gianna Nannini was born on June 14, 1954, in Siena, Italy. From a young age, she showed a passion for music, studying piano and composition in Milan during the late 1970s. This early dedication laid the foundation for her future career as a prominent singer and songwriter.

Career

Nannini's musical journey began to take off in 1979 with her hit single "America" and the album "California," which garnered success across several European countries. Her international breakthrough came in 1984 with the album "Puzzle," produced by Conny Plank, which peaked in the top 10 in Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The album's lead single, "Fotoromanza," was accompanied by a music video directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and won numerous awards. Nannini's popularity soared with hits like "Bello e impossibile" in 1986 and the compilation album "Maschi e altri" in 1987, which sold over a million copies. In 2004, she released a greatest hits album titled "Perle," featuring rearranged versions of her most famous songs, and embarked on a European tour.

In 2006, her album "Grazie" reached number one in Italy, driven by the success of the single "Sei nell'anima." Nannini continued to evolve as an artist, releasing various albums and collaborating with notable musicians throughout her career.

Personal Life

Beyond her music, Nannini has led a colorful personal life. She obtained a degree in philosophy from the University of Siena in 1994 and has been an advocate for various social issues, including environmental activism. In 2010, at the age of 56, she announced her pregnancy, which was widely covered in the media. Nannini's daughter, Penelope Jane Charlotte, was born later that year. In 2017, she moved to London with her partner, Carla, and expressed her desire for a civil union to ensure her daughter's future security.
