Early Life

Gulnara Islamovna Karimova, known as Googoosha, was born in Uzbekistan and is the elder daughter of Islam Karimov, who served as the president of Uzbekistan from 1991 until his death in 2016. She graduated from the Youth Mathematic Academy in Tashkent in 1988 and later earned a bachelor's degree in International Economics from Tashkent State University. Her education continued with a master's degree from Harvard University in regional studies, and she also holds a PhD in political science from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent.

Career

Googoosha is not only recognized for her academic achievements but also for her significant influence in Uzbekistan as a businesswoman and social activist. She has held various diplomatic roles, including serving as Uzbekistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and as the country's ambassador to Spain. In addition to her political career, she has been involved in the arts, founding the Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan Foundation, which promotes cultural initiatives in the country. Her music career includes the release of albums titled "Googoosha," showcasing her vocal talents.

Personal Life

In 1991, Googoosha married Mansur Maqsudi, an American businessman, with whom she has two children. Their marriage ended in a highly publicized divorce that involved international custody disputes. Despite the challenges, she has maintained a prominent public profile, often leveraging her family's connections to influence various sectors in Uzbekistan. However, her relationship with her father deteriorated over time, leading to a significant loss of her influence after 2013.
