Early Life

Isis Naija Gaston, known professionally as Ice Spice, was born on January 1, 2000, in the Bronx, New York City. Growing up in a mixed-ethnicity household, her father, Joseph Gaston, is African-American, while her mother, Charina Almanzar, is Dominican. Ice Spice's parents met at a McDonald's, and her father was an underground rapper. After her parents divorced when she was two, she spent much of her childhood with her grandparents and cousins. She developed a passion for hip-hop at a young age, influenced by artists like Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj, and began writing poetry and freestyle raps during her school years.

Career

Ice Spice's musical journey began in 2020 when she met record producer RiotUSA, who helped her produce her debut song, "Bully Freestyle," released in March 2021. Her breakout single, "Munch (Feelin' U)," released in August 2022, gained significant traction after being supported by Drake, leading to her signing with 10K Projects and Capitol Records. Her debut EP, "Like..?", released on January 20, 2023, featured popular tracks like "Bikini Bottom" and "In Ha Mood." Ice Spice's music is characterized by Bronx drill and pop rap, and she is known for her straightforward lyrical style.

Personal Life

Ice Spice identifies as bisexual and has been open about her relationships, including a past romance with professional cornerback Sauce Gardner. Despite her rising fame, she has faced controversies, including criticisms from fellow artists and legal disputes over unpaid services. Nevertheless, Ice Spice continues to make waves in the music industry, establishing herself as a prominent figure in contemporary hip-hop.
