Dave Stewart

Early Life

David Allan Stewart was born on September 9, 1952, in Sunderland, England, to parents John and Sadie Stewart. He attended Barnes Infants and Junior School and later Bede Grammar School for Boys. As a teenager, Stewart secured a record deal with the folk-rock band Longdancer, which was signed to Elton John's Rocket Record Company, although they did not achieve commercial success. He also produced an EP with Brian Harrison, showcasing his early musical talents. After leaving Wearside, Stewart spent several years living in squats in London, where he met Annie Lennox in 1976, leading to both a romantic and professional partnership.

Career

Stewart and Lennox initially formed a band called the Catch, which evolved into the Tourists, achieving modest success with hits like their cover of Dusty Springfield's "I Only Want to Be with You" in 1979. However, it was their collaboration as Eurythmics that catapulted them to international fame. The duo became known for their innovative sound, blending pop rock, synth-pop, and new wave. Stewart's production skills earned him accolades, including three Brit Awards for Best British Producer and induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020. Beyond Eurythmics, he has worked with numerous artists, including Ringo Starr and Stevie Nicks, and has released several solo albums, such as "Greetings From the Gutter" and "The Blackbird Diaries."

Personal Life

Stewart's personal life has been as dynamic as his career. He was in a relationship with Annie Lennox for three years before they formed Eurythmics. He has been married three times, first to Pamela Wilkinson, then to Siobhan Fahey, with whom he has two sons, and currently to Dutch photographer Anoushka Fisz, with whom he has two daughters. A devoted supporter of Sunderland A.F.C., Stewart has maintained his roots, even accompanying his daughter Kaya during her audition for "American Idol" in 2023.

Legacy

Stewart's contributions to music have been recognized with numerous awards, including the O2 Silver Clef Award and induction into the UK Music Hall of Fame. Eurythmics were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, solidifying their legacy as one of the most influential duos in music history.
