Henry John Deutschendorf Jr., known professionally as John Denver, was born on December 31, 1943, in Roswell, New Mexico. He was the son of Erma Louise and Captain Henry John "Dutch" Deutschendorf Sr., a decorated pilot in the United States Army Air Forces.
