Early Life

Julia Carin Michaels was born in Davenport, Iowa, and later moved to Santa Clarita, California, with her family. Growing up in a musically inclined household, she was inspired by her father, who is of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent, and her older sister Jaden, who is also a songwriter. Julia began singing at the age of 12 and started her songwriting journey at 14, collaborating with Joleen Belle to write the theme song for the Disney Channel show "Austin & Ally". By 19, she was co-writing songs for major artists, including Demi Lovato and Fifth Harmony, and formed a significant partnership with Justin Tranter, leading to her success in the pop music scene.

Career

Michaels' career took off when she released her debut solo single "Issues" in January 2017, a song that resonated deeply with her personal experiences. The track garnered significant attention, leading to Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Song of the Year. Following this success, she released her EP "Nervous System" in July 2017 and toured with artists like Shawn Mendes and Maroon 5. Her collaborations continued to flourish, including a notable performance of "Carry Me" at the 2016 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. Personal Life

Julia Michaels has navigated several relationships throughout her life, including a three-year relationship with record producer Sir Nolan, which inspired her songwriting. She later dated fellow artist Lauv after their collaboration on "There's No Way". In July 2019, she began a relationship with Canadian musician JP Saxe, stemming from their duet "If the World Was Ending", although they broke up in September 2022. Currently, she is engaged to tattoo artist Mat Rule, with their engagement announced in April 2025.
