JYJ

Formation

JYJ, a South Korean boy band, was formed in April 2010 by three former members of TVXQ: Kim Junsu, Kim Jae-joong, and Park Yoo-chun. The group's name is derived from the initials of each member's name. They were initially managed by C-JeS Entertainment and made their debut with a series of live performances, including the Thanksgiving Live in Dome concerts in Osaka and Tokyo in June 2010.

Breakthrough

The group released their debut album, "The..." in September 2010, which topped the Oricon charts, selling 240,000 copies in its first week. Following this success, they released their English-language global debut album, "The Beginning," on October 12, 2010, featuring the Kanye West-produced single "Ayyy Girl." Despite facing challenges with their Japanese label Avex Entertainment, which suspended their activities in Japan, JYJ continued to gain international recognition through a worldwide showcase tour.

Philanthropy and Legacy

JYJ is also known for their philanthropic efforts, donating significant amounts to various causes, including disaster relief efforts in Japan and Thailand. Their commitment to social responsibility was evident during their inaugural tour, where they donated profits to World Vision International. JYJ's influence in the K-pop genre and their dedication to charitable causes have left a lasting impact on their fans and the music industry. The group disbanded in 2022, marking the end of an era for this influential trio.
