Formation
Lacuna Coil, an Italian gothic metal band, was formed in 1997 in Milan, Italy. Originally starting as Sleep of Right in 1994, the band underwent several lineup changes and name alterations before settling on Lacuna Coil, which translates to "empty spiral". The founding members included vocalist Andrea Ferro and bassist Marco Coti Zelati, who were soon joined by guitarist Raffaele Zagaria and drummer Michaelangelo Algardi. After a few changes, including the addition of Cristina Scabbia as a vocalist, the band signed with Century Media Records at the end of 1997.
Early Releases and Growth
The band released their self-titled EP in 1998, which marked their official debut. Following this, they recorded their first full-length album, "In a Reverie," which was released in 1999.
