Growing up in the affluent San Francisco Bay Area community of Atherton, he was encouraged to pursue athletics but ultimately chose music. His early guitar experiences began with a toy guitar, leading to his parents gifting him a Harmony guitar. Despite never taking formal lessons, Buckingham developed a unique fingerpicking style that would define his career.

Music Career

Buckingham's musical journey began in high school with the band Fritz, where he met Stevie Nicks. After a brief stint as a duo with Nicks, they joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975, propelling the band to international fame. Buckingham's innovative guitar work and production skills were pivotal in creating iconic albums like "Rumours" and "Tusk." He has also released several solo albums, including "Law and Order" and "Out of the Cradle," showcasing his versatility as a musician and producer. His contributions to music earned him a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and recognition as one of the greatest guitarists by Rolling Stone.

Personal Life

Buckingham's personal life has been intertwined with his music career, particularly his relationship with Nicks, which inspired many of their songs. He married Kristen Messner in 2000, with whom he has three children. His artistic journey reflects a commitment to songwriting and musicianship that prioritizes the song over the player, a philosophy he holds dear.
