LP

Early Life

Laura Pergolizzi, known professionally as LP, was born in 1981 in Huntington Station, New York, to Italian-American parents. Growing up in a musical environment, LP attended Walt Whitman High School and faced a significant personal tragedy when their mother passed away when they were just 16. This loss deeply influenced LP's songwriting, leading to the creation of the poignant track "Forever For Now" in 2014, dedicated to their mother. After moving to New York City in 2004, LP adopted the stage name "LP" and began to carve out a unique identity in the music scene.

Career

LP's career took off when David Lowery of the band Cracker recognized their talent and featured them on the hidden track "Cinderella" from the band's 1998 album. This collaboration led to the production of LP's debut album, "Heart-Shaped Scar," released in 2001. Over the years, LP has released several albums, including "Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol" and the critically acclaimed "Lost on You," which showcased their distinctive voice and songwriting prowess. LP has also penned songs for major artists like Rihanna and Christina Aguilera, further establishing their reputation in the industry. Despite facing challenges, including a brief stint with major labels, LP's resilience and artistic vision have allowed them to thrive in the alternative and indie rock genres.
