Lykke Li

Early Life

Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson, known professionally as Lykke Li, was born on March 18, 1986, in Ystad, Skåne, Sweden. Growing up in a creative environment, her mother, Kärsti Stiege, was a photographer, while her father, Johan Zachrisson, was a member of the Swedish punk-reggae band Dag Vag. Lykke's family moved to Stockholm during her childhood and later spent five years living on a mountaintop in Portugal, along with time in Lisbon, Morocco, and winters in Nepal and India. At 19, she briefly moved to Brooklyn, New York City, which would later influence her music career.

Career

Lykke Li's music career began with the release of her first EP, "Little Bit," in 2007, which garnered attention and led to her debut album, "Youth Novels," released in 2008. The album, produced by Björn Yttling, was inspired by a past relationship and received critical acclaim, leading to sold-out tours and performances at major festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella. Over the years, she has released several albums, including "Wounded Rhymes" (2011), "I Never Learn" (2014), "So Sad So Sexy" (2018), and "Eyeye" (2022). Lykke Li is best known for her hit single "I Follow Rivers," which solidified her place in the pop music landscape.

Personal Life

Lykke Li's personal life has been marked by significant events that have influenced her artistry. In 2015, she announced her pregnancy and welcomed her son, Dion, in early 2016. Tragically, her mother passed away shortly after Dion's birth, a loss that deeply affected her and inspired her album "So Sad So Sexy." In August 2023, she welcomed her second child, continuing to balance her personal and professional life while remaining a prominent figure in the music industry.
