Early Life

Mina Anna Mazzini, known simply as Mina, was born in 1940 into a working-class family in Busto Arsizio, Lombardy. Her family later moved to Cremona, where Mina developed a passion for music, frequently visiting clubs in Milan that showcased rock and roll and jazz. After completing high school in 1958, she pursued a degree in accounting but soon found her true calling in music.

Career

Mina's career took off in 1958 when she performed an impromptu rendition of "Un'anima tra le mani" at a family gathering, which led to her being discovered by Sergio Bernardini, the owner of the La Bussola night club. She began her solo career shortly after, signing with Italdisc and releasing her first single under the stage name Mina. Her unique vocal style, characterized by a three-octave range and dramatic tones, quickly earned her acclaim, and she became a prominent figure in Italian pop and rock music throughout the late 1950s to the mid-1970s. Known as the "Queen of Screamers," Mina captivated audiences with her energetic performances and distinctive voice, earning her nicknames like "the Tigress of Cremona."
