Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band formed in July 1996 in Kitee by keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and lead vocalist Tarja Turunen. The initial lineup was completed with drummer Jukka Nevalainen and bassist Sami Vänskä. Holopainen's vision for the band was to create a unique sound that blended acoustic elements with a strong female vocal presence, inspired by the music of various heavy metal bands and classical influences.
Breakthrough
The band released their debut album, "Angels Fall First," in 1997, which laid the groundwork for their future success. Their subsequent albums, including "Oceanborn" (1998), "Wishmaster" (2000), and "Century Child" (2002), propelled them to international fame. In 2001, Vänskä was replaced by Marko Hietala, who not only played bass but also contributed male vocals, enriching the band's sound. Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Kitee. The band was formed in 1996 by keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead vocalist Tarja Turunen. The lineup grew with drummer Jukka Nevalainen and bassist Sami Vänskä. In 2001, Vänskä was replaced by Marko Hietala, who also took over the male vocalist role previously filled by Holopainen or guest singers. Nightwish has been successful in Finland since the release of their debut album, Angels Fall First (1997), and were later recognized internationally through the release of their albums Oceanborn (1998), Wishmaster (2000) and Century Child (2002).
