Nirvana was formed in 1987 in Aberdeen, Washington, by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic. The duo initially met while attending Aberdeen High School and became friends through their mutual interest in music, particularly the Melvins. After several early projects and lineup changes, including drummers Aaron Burckhard and Dale Crover, Nirvana solidified its lineup with the addition of drummer Chad Channing in 1988.
Breakthrough
The band's breakthrough came with the release of their second album, "Nevermind," in 1991, which catapulted them to international fame and is often credited with bringing alternative rock into the mainstream.
