Formation
Pantera, an influential American heavy metal band, was formed in Arlington, Texas, in 1981 by the Abbott brothers, Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell. Initially named Gemini, the band underwent several name changes before settling on Pantera, inspired by the De Tomaso Pantera car. The original lineup included Vinnie Paul on drums, Dimebag Darrell on guitar, Terry Glaze on lead vocals, and Tommy D. Bradford on bass. In 1982, the band saw its first major lineup change when Glaze took over lead vocals after the departure of Donnie Hart, and Rex Brown joined as the bassist, marking the beginning of a new era for the group.
