Randolph Peter Best, known as Pete Best, was born on November 24, 1941, in Madras, India, to Mona Best and marine engineer Donald Peter Scanland. His early life was marked by the tumult of World War II, as his biological father died during the conflict. Mona Best later married Johnny Best, a commissioned officer and boxing champion, and the family moved to Liverpool in 1945 after a long journey on the Georgic, the last troop ship leaving India. Settling in Liverpool, the Best family faced challenges, including a cramped living situation that contrasted sharply with Mona's previous life in India.

Career

Pete Best's musical journey began in the early 1960s when he became the drummer for The Beatles, a role he held from 1960 until 1962. His tenure with the band was significant, as he was part of the group during their formative years, contributing to their early sound. However, just before The Beatles achieved global fame, Best was dismissed from the band, a decision that would haunt him throughout his life.
