Jordan Terrell Carter, known professionally as Playboi Carti, was born on September 13, 1995, in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in the nearby suburb of Riverdale. He has one older brother and attended North Springs Charter High School. Initially aspiring to be a professional basketball player, Carter shifted his focus to music after a disagreement with his coach. He began rapping under the name Sir Cartier and was influenced by artists like Wiz Khalifa and Odd Future, releasing early projects that circulated locally in Atlanta.

Career

Carter's musical journey began in 2011 when he started uploading tracks to SoundCloud. By 2013, he rebranded as Playboi Carti and joined the underground collective Awful Records in 2014. His big break came in 2015 with the release of singles like "Broke Boi" and "Fetti," which gained traction in the underground scene. In 2016, he signed with ASAP Rocky's label and began to rise in the music industry. Known for his eccentric vocal style and fashion, Carti has been described as a pioneer of the rage microgenre, with his music characterized by atmospheric sounds and unconventional vocal techniques, including his signature "baby voice."
