Rhys Ifans

Early Life

Rhys Owain Evans, known professionally as Rhys Ifans, was born on July 22, 1967, in Haverfordwest, Wales. He grew up in Ruthin, where he was raised in a bilingual household, speaking Welsh as his first language. His parents, Beti-Wyn and Eirwyn Evans, were educators, which likely influenced his early interest in the arts. Ifans attended Ysgol Maes Garmon, a Welsh medium secondary school, and later pursued acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, graduating in 1997.

Career

Ifans has had a diverse and successful career in both film and theatre. He gained recognition for his roles in films such as "Twin Town" (1997), "Notting Hill" (1999), and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1" (2010), where he played Xenophilius Lovegood. His stage work includes notable performances in productions like "Hamlet" at Theatr Clwyd and "King Lear" at The Old Vic, showcasing his range as an actor. Ifans has also appeared in various television series, including the HBO hit "House of the Dragon," where he plays Otto Hightower.

Personal Life

In addition to his acting career, Ifans has been involved in various charitable activities. He became a patron of the Welsh-language Wikipedia in 2012 and supported a campaign against homelessness in 2017. Ifans has had high-profile relationships, including a romance with actress Sienna Miller, and he has a younger brother, Llŷr Ifans, who is also an actor. His contributions to the arts were recognized in 2007 when he received an Honorary Fellowship from Bangor University for his services to the film industry.
