S.H.E

Formation

S.H.E is a Taiwanese Mandopop girl group formed in 2001, consisting of members Selina Jen (陳嘉樺), Hebe Tien (任家萱), and Ella Chen (田馥甄). The trio was brought together by HIM International Music, which emphasized their chemistry by having them live together in a dormitory. Their debut album, "Girls' Dorm," was released on September 11, 2001, and despite the unfortunate timing coinciding with the September 11 attacks, it sold 150,000 copies in Taiwan and 750,000 across Asia.

Breakthrough

Following their successful debut, S.H.E released their second album, "Youth Society," on January 29, 2002, which sold over 250,000 copies in Taiwan and 1.25 million in Asia. Their third album, "Genesis," released in August 2002, continued this trend, selling 180,000 copies in Taiwan and over 1.75 million in Asia. The group quickly became a dominant force in the Taiwanese music scene, known for their harmonious vocals and engaging pop melodies.

Legacy

S.H.E's influence on the Taiwanese music industry is significant, as they paved the way for future girl groups in a predominantly male-dominated market. By 2003, they were recognized as the top Taiwanese pop group, and their success inspired many other groups to emerge, often marketed as "the next S.H.E." After nearly two decades of collaboration, S.H.E decided not to renew their contract with HIM International Music in 2019, allowing the members to pursue individual projects while still cherishing their legacy as a groundbreaking girl group in Taiwan.
