Simone Simons

Early Life

Simone Johanna Maria Simons was born in Hoensbroek, Heerlen, Netherlands, near the borders of Germany and Belgium. Growing up, she developed a passion for music at a young age, starting singing lessons at the age of 10 and later taking flute lessons. By age 15, she shifted her focus from pop and jazz to lyrical singing, inspired by the classical music and compositions she discovered through Nightwish's album "Oceanborn". This pivotal moment led her to join a black metal band, despite her initial fears of performing. At 17, she met Mark Jansen through the After Forever fan club, which ultimately led to her joining the symphonic metal band Epica.

Career

Simons quickly rose to prominence as the lead singer of Epica, a band she joined in 2002. Over the years, she has contributed to the release of nine studio albums and has toured extensively around the globe. Her powerful voice and stage presence have made her a standout figure in the symphonic and gothic metal genres. In addition to her work with Epica, she has collaborated with various artists and bands, including Kamelot and Ayreon, showcasing her versatility as a vocalist. Simons also pursues a side career as a lifestyle blogger through her website, SmoonStyle.

Personal Life

Simons has faced health challenges, including recurrent MRSA infections in 2008, which temporarily sidelined her from touring. Despite these obstacles, she returned to the stage and continued to captivate audiences. In her personal life, she has been in a long-term relationship with Kamelot keyboard player Oliver Palotai, with whom she has a son, Vincent, born in 2013. The couple married later that year, and they currently reside in Stuttgart, Germany. Simons has expressed her belief that while physical appearance may attract attention, the music remains the most important aspect of her career.
