SuperM

Formation

SuperM, a South Korean idol supergroup, was formed on August 8, 2019, by SM Entertainment and Capitol Music Group. The group was created by bringing together seven members from four existing boy bands under SM Entertainment: Taemin from Shinee, Baekhyun and Kai from Exo, Taeyong and Mark from NCT 127, and Ten and Lucas from WayV. The announcement of SuperM was made during Capitol Congress 2019, where it was revealed that the 'M' in SuperM stands for both Matrix and Master, highlighting the members' established stardom.

Breakthrough

SuperM debuted on October 4, 2019, with their self-titled EP, which made history by entering the US Billboard 200 at number one, marking them as the first Asian artist to top the chart with a debut release. Their debut single, "Jopping," received critical acclaim and was featured in Billboard's Critics' Picks for the "25 Best K-pop Songs" of 2019. The group's focus on performance-based music and their impressive dance skills earned them the nickname "the Avengers of K-pop."

Disbandment and Legacy

Despite their rapid rise and significant impact on the K-pop scene, SuperM disbanded in 2023. Throughout their career, they released several notable singles, including "100," "Tiger Inside," and "One (Monster & Infinity)," and their album "Super One" further solidified their influence in the genre. SuperM's unique blend of talent and charisma left a lasting mark on the K-pop industry, showcasing the potential of collaborative supergroups.
