t.A.T.u. is a Russian pop duo formed in 2000, consisting of Lena Katina and Julia Volkova. The duo emerged from the children's musical group Neposedy, where both members had previously performed alongside future Russian stars. The group was created by producer Ivan Shapovalov and his partner Aleksandr Voytinskiy, who held auditions in Moscow to find teenage female vocalists. Katina and Volkova stood out during these auditions, leading to their selection as the duo that would become t.A.T.u.
Breakthrough
Their debut album, "200 Po Vstrechnoy," released in 2001, was a commercial success in Eastern Europe, paving the way for their English-language album, "200 km/h in the Wrong Lane," in 2002. This album achieved platinum status in Europe and included international hits like "All the Things She Said" and "Not Gonna Get Us." t.A.T.u. also represented Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, finishing third with their song "Ne ver, ne boysya."
