The Dead Weather

Formation and Early Years

The Dead Weather is an American rock supergroup formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2009. The band consists of Alison Mosshart, Jack White, Dean Fertita, and Jack Lawrence. Their inception was somewhat serendipitous; during a performance by the Raconteurs in Memphis, Jack White lost his voice, prompting him to invite Mosshart, who was touring with the Kills, to fill in. This collaboration led to a jam session at White's Third Man studio in January 2009, where the four musicians decided to form a band. Mosshart took on the role of lead vocalist, while White switched to drums, a decision he made to explore a different musical avenue.

Key Releases and Impact

The Dead Weather debuted with their single "Hang You from the Heavens" shortly after their formation, followed by their first album, "Horehound," which showcased their unique blend of alternative rock. They continued to release music, including their second album, "Sea of Cowards," and their third, "Dodge and Burn." The band is known for their energetic live performances, including notable appearances at festivals and events, such as the Austin City Limits Music Festival and Bonnaroo. Their sound, characterized by a gritty rock aesthetic, has influenced a variety of artists and contributed to the alternative rock genre.
