The Ting Tings

Formation

The Ting Tings are an English indie pop duo formed in December 2007 in Salford, Greater Manchester, consisting of Katie White and Jules De Martino. Their musical journey began when White, who had previously played in a punk trio called TKO, and De Martino, who shared a mutual love for Portishead, moved into the creative space Islington Mill Studios. It was here that they developed their sound and decided to form The Ting Tings, inspired by their experiences and the vibrant artistic community around them.

The duo's debut album, "We Started Nothing," was released in 2008 by Columbia Records, achieving commercial success and critical acclaim. The album peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart and included hit singles like "That's Not My Name," which topped the UK Singles Chart, and "Shut Up and Let Me Go," which earned them a nomination for an MTV Video Music Award. Their success led to two Brit Award nominations and a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2010.
