Tommy Aldridge

Early Life

Tommy Aldridge was born on August 15, 1950, in Pearl, Mississippi. He developed a passion for music at a young age, teaching himself to play the drums during the 1960s. Aldridge built his drum kit piece by piece, using money earned from delivering newspapers and doing odd jobs. His mother supported his musical aspirations, while his father was less enthusiastic about his pursuits.

Career Beginnings

In the early 1970s, Aldridge began his professional music career by playing original music with Alley Keith in the Florida Panhandle. Influenced by renowned drummers like Louis Bellson and Sam Woodyard, he became an early pioneer of the hard rock double kick drum style. His big break came when he auditioned for the band Black Oak Arkansas in 1972, landing the job and making his recording debut with their album "If an Angel Came to See You, Would You Make Her Feel at Home?". Despite his initial excitement, Aldridge later expressed regret about joining the band, as he was not fond of their music and was uncomfortable with their heavy drug use.
