Early Life

Toni Watson, known professionally as Tones and I, was born and raised in Mount Martha on the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne, Australia. From a young age, she showed a natural talent for singing, which was first recognized by her family when she was just seven years old. Growing up, she learned to play the piano and drum pads during her secondary school years. Tones and I began her musical journey by busking in Melbourne while working in fashion retail, where she honed her skills and developed a loyal fanbase.

Career

Tones and I's career took off after she created a YouTube page in 2009, posting a cappella covers of popular songs. She performed at local gigs and festivals, eventually forming a duo in 2014. However, it was her transition to a solo career that marked a significant turning point. After being made redundant from her retail job, she invested in a loop station and began busking along the east coast of Australia. Her breakout single, "Dance Monkey," released in 2019, became a global sensation, topping charts in over 30 countries and breaking records in Australia. The song was certified 19× platinum by ARIA, solidifying her status as a leading figure in the music industry.

Personal Life

In her personal life, Tones and I began dating Jason Scott "Jimmy" Bedford in early 2020, who later became her stage technician and audio engineer. The couple got engaged in December 2021 and married in Bali in March 2023. However, their relationship faced challenges, leading to their separation by the end of 2025. Tones and I has also faced some legal issues, including fines related to property renovations and her dog’s behavior, which have garnered media attention.
