Early Life

Vitaliy Vladasovich Grachev, known professionally as Vitas, was born on February 19, 1979, in Daugavpils, Latvia. He later moved to Odesa, Ukraine, with his family, where he developed a passion for music at a young age. Vitas, who has Russian, Lithuanian, and Ashkenazi Jewish roots, was introduced to music by his grandfather, who taught him to play the accordion at just five years old. By the age of 12, he had already composed over 1,000 songs. He adopted the stage name "Vitas" during his teenage years, feeling that his birth name was too lengthy.

Career

Vitas's career took off in the late 1990s after he was discovered performing in nightclubs. Initially starting as a Michael Jackson tribute act, he showcased his unique blend of operatic pop, techno, and folk music. His breakthrough came in 1999 with the release of his song "Opera #1," which gained significant attention. Vitas's eclectic style and remarkable falsetto voice quickly made him a household name in Russia and beyond. He has released numerous albums, including "Философия чуда" and "Улыбнись!", and has become known for his theatrical performances that combine singing, dancing, and magic tricks.

Personal Life

Vitas is a dual citizen of Ukraine and Russia. He married his long-term girlfriend, Svetlana Grankovska, in 2006, and they have three children together. Despite his fame, Vitas has maintained a relatively private life, often avoiding media interactions until the early 2010s when he began to open up more about his personal experiences. His family life and artistic journey continue to inspire many of his fans, as he balances his career with his role as a father and husband.
