Early Life

Elissar Zakaria Khoury, known professionally as Elissa, was born on October 27, 1971, in Deir Al-Ahmar, Lebanon. She grew up in a family with a Lebanese father, Zakaria Khoury, a poet, and a Syrian-Lebanese mother, Youmna Suud. Elissa was raised alongside her three brothers and two sisters in the Beqaa Valley. Her childhood was marked by a close bond with her father and sister, although she faced challenges due to her parents' frequent disputes. Elissa attended a French boarding school where her musical talent was discovered by a nun, leading her to pursue a career in music after graduating with a degree in political science from the Lebanese University.

Career

Elissa's professional journey began in 1989 when she participated in theatrical comedy plays. Her breakthrough came in 1992 when she competed in the Lebanese talent show Studio El Fan, winning a silver medal. Despite initial setbacks, she released her debut album, "Baddy Doub," in 1998, which marked the start of her successful music career. Her second album, "W'akherta Maak," released in 2000, featured the hit duet "Betghib Betrouh" with Ragheb Alama, solidifying her status in the Arab music scene. Over the years, Elissa has released numerous albums, including "Aàyshalak," "Ahla Donya," and "Halet Hob," showcasing her emotive vocal style and earning her the title of the "Queen of Emotions."
