Early Life

Jeffrey Scott Buckley was born on November 17, 1966, in Anaheim, California, to Mary Guibert and the late singer-songwriter Tim Buckley. Raised in a musical environment, he was influenced by his mother, a classically trained musician, and his stepfather, who introduced him to rock legends like Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. Buckley, initially known as Scott "Scottie" Moorhead, had a tumultuous childhood, moving frequently and describing his upbringing as "rootless trailer trash." After meeting his father only once, he chose to adopt the Buckley surname following Tim's death in 1975.

Career

Buckley spent a decade honing his craft as a session guitarist in Los Angeles before gaining recognition in the early 1990s while performing in New York City's East Village. His breakthrough came with the release of his only studio album, "Grace," in 1994, which showcased his remarkable tenor vocal range and eclectic musical influences, including alternative rock, folk, and gospel. Buckley toured extensively to promote the album, captivating audiences across the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Australia. Throughout his life, Buckley had several significant relationships, including a notable romance with artist Rebecca Moore, which inspired much of his work on "Grace." He also had a passionate relationship with Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins and was romantically linked to musician Joan Wasser shortly before his untimely death in 1997.
