Formation
Jinjer, a Ukrainian metalcore band, was formed in 2008 in Donetsk. The original lineup consisted of singer Maksym Fatullaiev, guitarist Dmitriy Oksen, bassist Oleksiy Svynar, and drummer Vyacheslav Okhrimenko. They released their debut EP, "Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear," shortly after their formation. However, in 2009, a significant change occurred when Fatullaiev was replaced by the current lead vocalist, Tatiana Shmayluk, and Roman Ibramkhalilov joined as the second guitarist, marking the beginning of the band's most recognized era.
Breakthrough
The band continued to evolve, with bassist Eugene Abdukhanov joining in 2011 and drummer Oleksandr Koziychuk replacing Okhrimenko. This lineup self-released the EP "Inhale, Do Not Breathe" in 2012, which garnered attention and led to a re-release in 2013. Jinjer's first full-length album, "Cloud Factory," was released in 2014 and later picked up by Napalm Records, propelling them into the international music scene. The band has since released several albums, including "King of Everything," "Macro," and their latest, "Duél," which is set to release in February 2025.
Musical Style and Influence
Jinjer is known for their unique blend of metalcore, progressive metal, and groove metal, drawing influences from a wide range of genres, including R&B, funk, and jazz. Their lyrics often reflect the socio-political climate of their home region, particularly the war in Donbas. Jinjer ( "ginger") is a Ukrainian metalcore band from Donetsk, formed in 2008. None of the founding members remain with the band. The current lineup considers 2009 as its official year of formation, with the arrival of singer Tatiana Shmayluk and guitarist Roman Ibramkhalilov. The band has since added bassist Eugene Abdukhanov and drummer Vladislav Ulasevich. Their fifth studio album, Duél, was released in February 2025.
