Johann Strauss II, also known as Johann Strauss Jr. or the "Walzerkönig" (Waltz King), was born on October 25, 1825, in St. Ulrich near Vienna, Austria. He was the son of composer Johann Strauss I and Maria Anna Streim. Despite his father's wishes for him to pursue a career in banking, Strauss Jr. secretly studied the violin under the first violinist of his father's orchestra, Franz Amon. His father discovered his musical ambitions and initially opposed them, but after abandoning the family for a mistress, Strauss Jr. was able to focus on his music with his mother's support.
Career
Strauss Jr. became one of the most celebrated composers of light music, particularly known for his waltzes and operettas. He composed over 500 pieces, including famous works like "The Blue Danube" and "Kaiser Walzer." His career took off as he toured extensively across Austria, Poland, and Germany, eventually becoming the Music Director of the Royal Court Balls in 1863. Despite facing a nervous breakdown in 1853, he continued to thrive, even performing in Russia annually until 1865. His music became synonymous with Viennese culture, and he was instrumental in popularizing the waltz as a dance form.
Death and Legacy
Johann Strauss II passed away on June 3, 1899, in Vienna at the age of 73, leaving behind a rich legacy of music that continues to be celebrated today. His works are regularly performed at the annual Vienna New Year's Concert, and he has inspired numerous orchestras, including the Wiener Johann Strauss Orchester, founded in 1966. His influence on classical music and dance remains profound, ensuring that his melodies are cherished by audiences worldwide.

He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, marches and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet.
Johann Maria Eduard Strauss III was an Austrian composer whose father was Eduard Strauss, whose uncles were Johann Strauss II and Josef Strauss, and whose grandfather was Johann Strauss I. Born in Vienna, he was unofficially entrusted with the task of upholding his family's tradition after the dissolution of the Strauss Orchestra by his father in 1901. His talents were not fully realized during his lifetime as musical tastes had changed in the Silver Age with more popular composers such as Franz Lehár and Oscar Straus dominating the Viennese musical scene with their operettas, although his uncle, Johann Strauss II, supervised his development as a musician, a fact disputed by Eduard Strauss.
