Биография
Early Life
John William Cummings, known as Johnny Ramone, was born on October 8, 1948, in Queens, New York City. He was raised as an only child by his mother Estelle, a waitress, and his father Francis, a construction worker. Growing up in the Forest Hills neighborhood, Johnny was heavily influenced by rock music and developed a passion for it early on. His strict upbringing instilled a strong work ethic in him, as he recalled being pushed to play sports even when injured. As a teenager, he played in a band called the Tangerine Puppets, where he met future Ramones drummer Tommy Ramone. Before achieving fame, he also worked as a plumber alongside his father.
Career
Johnny Ramone was a founding member of the iconic punk rock band, the Ramones. He met future bandmate Dee Dee Ramone in the early 1970s, and together they formed the band with Joey Ramone and Tommy Ramone. The Ramones played their first show on March 30, 1974, and released their self-titled debut album, which, while not commercially successful, received critical acclaim. Over the years, the band released several influential albums, including "Leave Home" and "Rocket to Russia," with the latter reaching number 49 on the Billboard 200. Johnny remained a constant presence in the band until their disbandment in 1996, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
Personal Life
Johnny's early adulthood was marked by delinquency, but he turned his life around at the age of 20, quitting drugs and alcohol. He married his first wife, Rosana, in 1972, but they divorced by 1976. In 1983, he survived a severe injury from a fight, which required emergency brain surgery. He later married Linda in 1984, who had previously dated Joey Ramone. Despite their professional relationship, tensions grew between Johnny and Joey, especially during Joey's illness. Johnny's reflections on their relationship reveal a complex bond, as he expressed fondness for Joey in his writings, despite their estrangement during Joey's final days.
