Early Life

Marina Lambrini Diamandis, known mononymously as Marina, was born on October 10, 1985, in Brynmawr, Wales. Growing up in Pandy near Abergavenny, she was raised by her Welsh mother and Greek father, who separated when she was four. Marina described her childhood as simple and idyllic, spending her early years playing football and developing a love for music. She attended Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls, where she discovered her musical talent, and later moved to Greece to connect with her heritage. After earning an International Baccalaureate in Athens, she returned to Wales, determined to pursue a career in music.

Career Beginnings

In 2005, Marina adopted the stage name "Marina and the Diamonds" and began her journey in the music industry. She self-released her debut EP, "Mermaid vs Sailor," in 2007, which garnered attention and led to her signing with Neon Gold Records. Her breakthrough came with the release of her debut album, "The Family Jewels," in 2010, which showcased her unique blend of indie pop and synth-pop. Over the years, she has released several successful albums, including "Electra Heart," "FROOT," and "LOVE + FEAR," each reflecting her artistic evolution and personal experiences.
