Proof

Early Life

DeShaun Dupree Holton, known professionally as Proof, was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Sharallene "Pepper" Holton, a single mother. His father, McKinley Jackson, was a music producer who left to pursue his career before Proof's birth. Growing up, Proof formed a close friendship with rapper Eminem, which would later play a significant role in his career.

Career

Proof initially performed under the name Maximum before adopting the moniker "Proof". He gained national prominence in 1996 when he co-founded the hip-hop group D12, also known as "The Dirty Dozen", alongside Eminem and other friends. After a brief disbandment, Proof reformed D12, solidifying its lineup and leading to their debut album, "Devil's Night", released in 2001. Proof's career flourished as he toured with major artists like Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg during the Up In Smoke Tour. He also made a notable appearance in the film "8 Mile" as Lil' Tic, a freestyle rapper, and released a six-song EP titled "Electric CoolAid Acid Testing" to capitalize on his rising fame.

Legacy

Proof's contributions to hip-hop, particularly through D12, have left a lasting impact on the genre. His collaborations and performances helped shape the sound of Midwest hip-hop and horrorcore. Despite his untimely passing in 2006, Proof's influence continues to resonate within the music community, and he is remembered as a pivotal figure in the Detroit rap scene.
