Formation

Rhapsody of Fire, originally formed as Thundercross in 1993 in Trieste, Italy, was the brainchild of guitarist Luca Turilli and keyboardist Alex Staropoli. The band initially included drummer Daniele Carbonera and vocalist Cristiano Adacher, but after releasing their first demo, "Land of Immortals," in 1994, they underwent several lineup changes. The pivotal moment came when they signed with Limb Music Products & Publishing and changed their name to Rhapsody, releasing their second demo, "Eternal Glory," shortly thereafter.

Breakthrough

The band's breakthrough came with the release of their debut studio album, "Legendary Tales," in 1997, which marked the beginning of the "Emerald Sword Saga." This album, characterized by its high fantasy themes and orchestral arrangements, set the stage for their unique sound in the symphonic power metal genre. Following this success, they released several acclaimed albums, including "Symphony of Enchanted Lands" in 1998 and "Dawn of Victory" in 2000, solidifying their reputation as pioneers in the genre.

Evolution and Legacy

Over the years, Rhapsody of Fire has seen numerous lineup changes, with notable members including vocalist Fabio Lione, who contributed to the band from 1995 until 2016. The band continued to evolve, releasing albums like "Power of the Dragonflame" and "The Frozen Tears of Angels," and they eventually rebranded as Rhapsody of Fire in 2006 due to trademark issues. Their music, often centered around fantasy narratives, has influenced many within the power metal scene, and they remain a significant force in the genre today, with their latest album, "Glory for Salvation," released in 2021.
