Formation

Run-D.M.C. was formed in 1982 in Hollis, Queens, New York City, by Joseph Simmons (Run), Darryl McDaniels (DMC), and Jason Mizell (Jam Master Jay). The trio emerged from a vibrant local hip-hop scene, with Simmons initially performing as a DJ for Kurtis Blow, while McDaniels transitioned from athletics to music, encouraged by Simmons. Their friendship with Mizell, known for his flashy style, solidified their partnership, leading to the creation of one of hip-hop's most iconic groups.

Breakthrough

The group gained prominence in the mid-1980s with their self-titled debut album, "Run-D.M.C.", followed by the groundbreaking "King of Rock" and the influential "Raising Hell".
